My niece , Kelley and I are volunteering with Habatat for Humanity East Bay in Livermore. March 18 was our fifth day working on site. The build project in Livermore will have 22 houses when it is finished. I got to use the Palm-nailer and we spent most of the day on ladders.

We took the picture below while driving home. It seems like the perfect place to live considering my obsession with dirt and farming.

From the HFH website:

Project Description: Habitat for Humanity East Bay is building 22 homes on a 2-acre site located on East and Hayes Avenues. The homes will be owner-occupied 3- and 4- bedroom homes for working families. Lot and private yard sizes will be typical of what is currently being built for market rate homes in the Livermore area, with common areas as appropriate. This development will incorporate green building techniques, maximizing energy efficiency and sustainability.

History: In the spring of 2000, Habitat for Humanity East Bay was contacted by the City of Livermore and by an alliance of faith organizations from the Livermore area about building homes with their assistance in Livermore. Several volunteers from the faith groups worked with city staff and a local realtor to locate vacant sites. They located a lot at 4218 East Avenue. Habitat completed acquisition of the properties on East Avenue and Hayes Avenue totalling over two acres!

Volunteerism: Volunteers also play a critical role in our Program, and are involved in every stage of construction. For more information on volunteering, contact the Volunteer Coordinator, 510-251-6304 ext. 311 or click here.
