Lake Lagunita

Lake Lagunita at Stanford University.

I was here last week on a field trip with about 80 8th graders from my school. My group found all of the cool stuff, like Memorial Church

My favorite was the totems of The Papua New Guinea Sculpture Garden. My students were laughing and embarressed because of the phallic nature of that kind of art, but I am still glad we walked through there on our way to Lake Lagunita.

From the Stanford description: "Ten master carvers from Papua New Guinea came to Stanford in the summer of 1994 to carve these figures in wood and stone. The figures are largely based on the culture and mythology of the Kwoma and Iatmul peoples of Papua, New Guinea, although the Stanford Directory also mentions reinterpretations of Rodin's The Thinker and The Gates of Hell. The garden is located at the corner of Santa Teresa Street and Lomita Drive."
